General Information
Impronte digitali is the digital library of the University of Florence Library System (Sistema Bibliotecario di Ateneo dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze).
It allows for the management, long-term preservation of digital objects, and their searching and access for research and teaching purposes.
The digitization activity began in 2010 during the "Digitization for Library Services" project (Digitalizzazione per i servizi bibliotecari), that created the starting core of the digitized collection. The collection has gradually grown richer with new digital objects from digitization projects aimed at conservation, at the valorization and sharing of important and rare items from the libraries' historical funds.
The new platform integrates digitized archival records, mainly photographs, into the digital library. This offers unified access to resources that were previously accessible only via the Arianna portal.
Digital collections are accessible also on Internet Culturale and can be searched within the integrated catalogue OneSearch and its Collections.
As online catalogues, Impronte digitali allows resource identification, providing various methods and strategies for searching, and a variety of filters for refining and sorting results; additionally, it allows access to the resource's content with the possibility of virtually navigating its index and utilizing advanced image viewing and usage functionalities. Impronte digitali can provide material in different formats, including audio and video, and guarantee the correct use of resources with access or functionality restrictions, also in compliance with any constraints imposed by copyright law or other regulations.
